Snacking and Holiday Travel

The holidays are busy, right? It feels like we cannot wait for September 1 to arrive because that sparks the start of “all things fall”. Before we know it, it's Halloween and after that, November and December come and go in a flash. Suddenly, you're left ringing in the New Year wondering where the past three months have gone and kind of wish you could do it all over again?!

It's an exciting time and things even feel a little magical during the latter part of the year. You may be making plans to meet up with friends or family members that you haven't seen in a while. You may also be the person that your friends and family are traveling to, which is also exciting and busy at the same time. There's indulgent foods and beverages easily accessible, including those seasonal favorites that we tend to only enjoy in the fall and winter months.

For some, the idea of traveling to visit loved ones is something to look forward to, but it may require extra planning in advance to make sure you've packed your essentials. This may also includes planning out better-for-you foods/beverages to snack on in between meals. Portable options will most likely be your best bet, no matter the form of transportation you are taking to get to and from your destination.

Of course, airports and convenience stores have a variety of options to choose from, whether you need to pick up something in between flights or during a stretch break at a rest stop. However, it may be beneficial to have a plan where you've done some quick, minimal preparation before your departure to save time at those retailers. Here are some convenient and shelf-stable options that travel well and can be ready when you are. Bonus – these ideas also pack well in reusable containers!

  • Nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, etc.)
  • Nut butters (don't forget a utensil!)
  • Whole pieces of fruit (apples, clementines, oranges, peaches, pears, bananas, etc.)
  • Dried fruit
  • Protein bars, such as think!'s Chocolate Peppermint seasonal flavor
  • Pretzels or crackers
  • Dried cereal, granola, or trail mix

One other note when traveling: try to remember your reusable water bottle. It's a constant reminder to make sure you're staying hydrated and is easy to refill, as needed.

All of us at think! hope you and your loved ones have a fantastic holiday season!
